Best Bánh Mì in London: Vietnamese Sandwich Spots Worth Seeking Out

Bánh mì is one of those sandwiches that shouldn't work on paper — French baguette, Vietnamese pickles, pâté, coriander, chilli — and yet it's one of the most satisfying things you can eat. London's Vietnamese food scene has grown quietly and steadily over the past decade, and the bánh mì options have grown with it. From Hackney to Southbank, here are the spots we think are doing it well.

Pho Street Eats ⭐ Our Pick

This mother-daughter duo has been at Old Spitalfields Market since 2019, building a loyal following on family recipes and consistency. Their beef bones are sourced from East London butchers; their star anise and cinnamon come from nearby Asian grocers. The bánh mì here carries that same commitment to sourcing — nothing flashy, just proper ingredients put together properly.

We sat down with them to hear the story behind the stall. Read our full interview →

Nha Trang Kitchen ⭐ Our Pick

Nha Trang Kitchen is the kind of stall you find at a market and then spend the next week thinking about. The cooking draws directly from family recipes, and you can taste it — there's a specificity to the flavours that you don't get from places that are just going through the motions with Vietnamese food.

We featured them as part of our Vietnamese street food coverage. Read our feature →

My Kids Are Hungry

A Southbank staple. My Kids Are Hungry has built its reputation on Vietnamese comfort food done with real care, drawing in regulars who come back not just for the food but for the warmth of the whole thing. Their bánh mì is generous without being sloppy — the balance of pickles, protein, and heat is right.

Hanoi Cà Phê

Hanoi Cà Phê brings the café culture of northern Vietnam to London — coffee, bánh mì, and the feeling of sitting somewhere that actually knows what it's doing. The bánh mì here leans into the Hanoi style: lighter, less loaded than the southern versions, with the bread doing more of the work. Worth a visit if you want something a bit different from the usual.

Bánh Mì Hội-An

Based in Hackney, Bánh Mì Hội-An takes its cues from the central Vietnamese city famous for, among other things, having some of the best bánh mì in the world. The Infatuation gave it a solid write-up, and the reputation has held. The bread is good, the fillings are generous, and it's the kind of place that makes you wish you lived closer.

Bánh Bakery

If you ask around about the best bánh mì in London right now, Bánh in Dalston keeps coming up. Opened in 2023, it's built a following quickly — and deservedly. The baguette has a seriously crispy shell with a feather-light interior, and the classic filling brings in char siu, pâté, pork belly roll, ham hock, a pork patty, and pork floss. That's essentially every good part of a pig in one sandwich, and it works.

Banh Mi Aha!

Four locations across central London (Soho, Holborn, Farringdon, City) and a 97K Instagram following that says people aren't just eating here once. The Special bánh mì loads crispy pork belly, head cheese, ham, sausage, and chicken liver pâté into a baguette that holds its crunch throughout — with five spice butter and pickled vegetables doing the balancing work. Easy to see why it's become a lunchtime regular for a lot of people.
