About the event
Follow the action and experience the excitement of the July 2026 Grand Sumo Tournament with a daily screening of NHK WORLD-JAPAN's GRAND SUMO Highlights at Japan House London.
Grand Sumo Tournaments or honbasho are held six times a year in various parts of Japan. Each tournament lasts 15 days and features the top rikishi (wrestlers) competing in the ring for the prized Emperor's Cup. The July Tournament is known as the Nagoya Basho and takes place at the IG Arena in Nagoya.
Broadcast in English by NHK WORLD-JAPAN, GRAND SUMO Highlights takes you ringside with play-by-play commentary on the day's action and background information on this sport which originated in Japan and boasts a history of more than 1500 years.
Screenings are every day from 17:30 to 18:00. They may sometimes be shown only in The Shop due to Hall closures for events.
There is no screening on 11 July.
