Nomad is bringing three short films about women’s struggle and power to Cardiff in Women’s History Month. The three films, by Hong Kong women directors, highlight the personal stories of growing up as women and the reconciliation with the past. In collaboration with @hkff.unitedkingdom.

Synopsis

To Know Her ⺟ • 緣 (Natalie A. Chao 導演) 15 min

Filmed decades apart on the same miniDV camcorder, TO KNOW HER is a poetic exploration of Natalie’s family’s relationship with her mother, who passed away when she was 14 years old to clinical depression.

《⺟ • 緣》是用導演母親用過同一部迷你 DV 攝影機上拍攝的，時間相隔數十年，是對家人與母親關係的詩意探索。除了時間和空間之外，還有什麼把她們分開呢？這是從那時起就一直困擾著導演趙芷妮的問題。

Depths of Night 極夜 (Step Cheung 張小踏) 13 min

It portrays the author’s fear of change, It feels like the soul is broken into many pieces endlessly, but as long as we can survive, depths of night pass eventually.

刻劃着作者面對扭曲的恐懼，只能用動畫記錄着當刻的感覺，延伸很多問題，為什麼人會恐懼呢？過去現在未來的自己如何面對這些情感？感覺就像是靈魂粉身碎骨無限次，但只要我們捱得過，極夜總會過去的。

The director spent her childhood living apart from her family and knew very little about its history. This changed when she graduated from college and decided to face her parents with her camera in a search for answers to questions about her past.

導演童年一直與家人分開生活，對於家庭歷史，一直不敢多問。大學畢業那一年，毅然拿起攝影機面對父母，希望填補過去的空白。
