About the event

"Islands are,  or at minimum can be, multiple forms of interstices, but they are very  much created as such—whether inadvertently, deliberately, or a  combination—making the island a political interstice." - Ilan Kelman THE  ISLAND REMEMBERS intrigues audiences in discovering unique narratives —  set on, about, or from islands. Whether you're familiar with the  intricate challenges facing islands in East and Southeast Asia or not, it  offers a glimpse into the complex and often vulnerable histories of  Okinawa, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, alongside the livelihoods of  their inhabitants. Let these evocative moving images reveal  cross-cultural encounters and the relationships between diverse beings —  human or otherwise — shaped by migration, colonization, political  expansion, and climate change.
