Limehouse: London's Lost Chinatown Walking Tour

A walking tour exploring London's original Docklands Chinatown, which had its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s.

Many buildings and even whole streets have now gone, but guide Andrew Humphrey brings the community back to life with forensic urban archaeology and stories of where Chinese sailors lived, worked and spent their leisure time. You'll meet some of the local women who married Chinese sailors, and the generations of mixed-heritage children of the Chinese East End.

The tour takes a critical look at how Chinese Limehouse caught the imagination of contemporary journalists, authors, songwriters, film-makers and the general public.

£2 from every ticket sold is donated to a local charity: Chinese Association of Tower Hamlets (most Sunday tours), Care for St Anne's (Saturday tours) and b.esean (September 2026 Sunday tour). The tour also supports local independent businesses Three Colt Gallery for the coffee break and New Beijing restaurant for an optional post-tour lunch. Saturday tours include a chance to visit the Chinese Limehouse exhibition at St Anne's Limehouse afterwards.
