Tao (Elizabeth Tang) is infatuated with Shin (Shin Cheung) and trying to invent a way to make their relationship leave an indelible mark on him — and the idea she lands on is to inflict pain, like sending gangs to beat him up on the street. Melih (Melih Selçuk), the Turkish owner of a noodle shop the couple frequents, is also struggling to connect with someone he’s in love with: Ping (Wang Yu-ping), who one day sent him a flower out of the blue. As Melih stares at the flower day after day, he gains an unexpected insight into Tao’s story, and the two develop an inexplicable connection with each other.

Playful, quirky, and poetic, Ka Ki Wong’s first feature transforms the streets of Taipei into a kaleidoscopic lucid dream, probing the relationship between connection, memory, and pain through the intertwined stories of her characters, whom the filmmaker interviews, leaving us unsure whether the answers are coming from the actors themselves or from the characters they play.

Followed by an in-person Q&A with Ka Ki Wong, moderated by Erin Li, Curator (Public Programmes and Residencies) at YDP.
