Happy Together — Queer East Asian Diaspora + Ally Party Night

Launch Party for East Asian Queer event Happy Together 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🪩🐝 It welcomes allies from other backgrounds and non-queer friends 🫶🏼

Event will be on 7th October 26 (Wed) 7-11PM at VADA VADA, Manchester. With cultural differences in mind, this will not be a dance-centered party, but a social gathering with a drag king performance and lip sync battle. 🍹👥💬

The launch event will be free-entry. Please show love for @vadavadamcr as a grass root queer venue!

For Intuition 第六感's performance, they chose Joey Yung to be the main theme. Joey is a well-known Hong Kong singer known for her professional singing, elaborate concerts, and her queer signaling in the music industry. The media industry in Hong Kong and parts of East Asia still largely considers LGBT as stigma, and so many A-lister artists remain largely closeted but queer signals through their works. Intuition considers Joey finds her repertoire and performance of two extreme spectrums (sappy sad love songs, and sexy music) very inspiring, and wants to launch the event with her music. They also hope to host Lip Sync battles with Canto/Chinese songs, to make it a more affirming experience.

Manchester has been a lovely city with vibrant queer party scenes. We hope to take the lessons and create queer spaces for the diaspora here. This has been a very new multi-cultural experiences, and we are excited to see it evolve. We'd love to send our love to Canal Street Kings, Butch Revival, Diesel Dykes, Drag-Up project by Queer China UK, Petticoat Lane HK, Rebel Dykes, Dirt Dykes, BOUND zine, T4T, T40, and Bite Back, which have been our inspirations.

This has been a project 2 years in the making. We are excited to see where it goes, and hopefully we can collaborate with more diaspora groups here in Manchester/Northern England.

Due to our current team members, this is a currently sinophone-focused event. But if you are from other parts of East Asia that would like to be involved, please don't hesitate to reach out!!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Hope to see you all ♥️
