About the event
hARTslane is pleased to present Blue Days in the UK, a group exhibition showcasing
new works by six Hong Kong–born artists and illustrators. On view this August in
London, the exhibition reflects on the emotional landscape of migration through
illustration and image-making.
The artists—each recently relocated or in the process of relocating to the UK—draw from
personal experience to explore the complex realities of settling into a new country.
Against the backdrop of over 200,000 Hongkongers having moved to the UK since 2020,
Blue Days in the UK considers what it means to rebuild a sense of home in unfamiliar
surroundings.
From language barriers and cultural dislocation to long, grey winters and the
peculiarities of British domestic life, these works blend humour, memory, and fantasy to
offer honest—and often tender—reflections on the emotional weight of transition.
A public programme accompanies the exhibition, featuring a talk by a traditional Chinese
medicine practitioner on how the UK climate may affect physical and emotional well-
being, as well as informal fireside conversations with the artists and a picture book
workshop for children.
Blue Days in the UK is both a response to the quiet challenges of starting over and a
space to connect through shared experience—an invitation to pause, reflect, and feel a
little less alone.
