About the event

The year is 2049. Nazar floats alone at sea: ship empty, supplies meagre, and all hope lost.

When Nazar sails through a strange storm, four strangers from across time and space crash-land on deck: 14th century Muslim diplomat Zheng He, 19th century pirate queen Sek Yeong, and 23rd century space revolutionaries Keliling and Riang. The pirates struggle for power – and acceptance – make enemies – and friends.

As the budding-bickering crew sail through ship graveyards and fight mutant deep-sea creatures, they look for a place to call home in this ravaged world.

Through an experimental blend of traditional instruments, 21st century Asian pop, and musical influence from diasporas, Asian Pirate Musical explores freedom, found families, and finding fun in the face of our future.

This is a script-in-hand concert performance of the full show, shared with the public for the first time.
