Alternative Roots 2026: Festival of ESEA Performances and Communities
Kakilang's day-long festival of East and Southeast Asian creative practice takes over every corner of Hoxton Hall from midday to 10pm, with live performance, music, film, exhibitions, workshops, talks and food. Curated by Ming Strike, it makes room for the work that doesn't fit neat categories. The full line-up is still to be announced — book early if you want the cheaper tier.

About the event
Alternative Roots returns to Hoxton Hall for its second edition — a day-long festival celebrating the diversity of East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) creative practices in the UK, creating space for artists, works and ideas that don’t easily fit into existing categories.
Taking over different spaces across Hoxton Hall, the festival brings together live performance, music, film, exhibitions, workshops, conversations, food and more, inviting audiences to discover new work, meet artists and spend time together.
At its heart, Alternative Roots celebrates ESEA creativity in all its complexity — bringing together different disciplines, generations, backgrounds and perspectives, while creating space for experimentation, exchange and community.
Full programme and artist line-up to be announced.
