About the event

Woojin Jeon is a South Korean artist based in London. His sculptural installation projects project queerness into physical space by materialising unsettled power dynamics between violence and protection, cleansing and defilement. His practice brings together materials and forms that resist classification, revealing the physical presence of matter in states that are neither fully purified nor entirely corrupted.

For Under The Drain, he presents new installations, developing through site specific and architectural intervention. Materials that appear incompatible or improper are layered, joined or held in delay, revealing forms shaped through the application of violence, waiting, control, neglect, recognition and repetition. In this space, matter is neither resolved nor reconciled, but remains in tension, an embodiment of disquiet and peculiarity.

Set against the intensified cultural climate of the past year, in which clarity and immediacy are increasingly demanded and traditions reaffirmed through heteronormative rhetoric, this work insists on what is often refused: deferral, distance, and the coexistence of divergent temporalities. The resulting installation operates as a prophetic utterance, opening space for existential intensity prior to meaning.
