About the event

Join us this International Women’s Day for a transnational feminist gathering!

This exhibition highlights how our generation of grassroots Chinese feminist activists in London and beyond have been learning, exploring, and practising feminist activism across borders.

From personal awakening to collective mobilisation, from online advocacy to street protests, from being confined by nationalist narratives to seeking liberation in daily life, we have found each other, organised, and fought back in a foreign land. Through our activism, we encounter multiple voices within feminist struggles while navigating external challenges and transnational solidarity.

The exhibition features materials from over 20 feminist actions in recent years, including hand-painted protest posters, banners, artistic works, and on-site audiovisual records of street activism. These materials are not only testaments of resistance but also document how actions take shape, how connections are built, and how feminist struggles continue to grow and expand.

This is not only a collective archive of resistance, persistence, and hope—it is also a space for reflection, resistance, and solidarity. Here, we transcend borders, standing shoulder to shoulder with feminists around the world, envisioning a freer, more diverse, and more possible future.

In addition to this, we will have special events for visitors every day:

Screening Introduction:

Answer

Mandarin/English

Answer records a pivotal case in China’s #MeToo movement—Zhou Xiaoxuan’s (known as Xianzi) sexual harassment lawsuit against Zhu Jun. Between 2020 and 2022, the case underwent three court hearings, during which both Chinese society and the #MeToo movement saw significant shifts. Each hearing brought together supporters outside the courthouse who stood by Xianzi, sharing moments of laughter, tears, and political awakening. The film captures the setbacks and triumphs of this case, both inside and outside the courtroom.

Bad Woman of China

Mandarin/English

Documenting women’s sexuality and desire is Director He Xiaopei's creative intention. Women’s voices, experiences, and desires are often obscured and ignored by the mainstream media, and women themselves often unconsciously belittle their desires, ideals, and life experiences. It is precisely visual creation that can help women express their desires and cherish their personal needs and experiences. By documenting the stories, desires, and needs of women and other marginalized groups such as sex workers, people with disability, sexually discriminated persons, and people with HIV, the director’s desire is to express what is repressed.
