About the event
Changing Seasons: besea.n Event
besea.n (Britain's East and South East Asian Network) is delighted to present our annual flagship event, where, for the first time ever, we welcome ESEA guests from the UK, France, and Germany to celebrate this year's theme: Changing Seasons.
This theme reflects the cyclical nature of life, experiences, cultures, and identities within the ESEA communities and beyond. We draw inspiration from seasonal festivals like the Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival, which emphasise the importance of adapting to new climates, cultivating fresh perspectives, and greeting the future with optimism.
In the Auditorium
In the Auditorium space, expect two exciting panel discussions on ‘The Flavour of Prejudice: Food Racism in ESEA European contexts’ and a second panel surrounding ‘Cultivating Community through Creativity’. We will be joined by esteemed guests such as Angela Hui, Caroline Knihar, Jing Chen, Julie Hamaïde, Linda Nguon, MiMi Aye, Sophia Luu & Vian Nguyen (further guests TBC).
We're also thrilled to host a stellar workshop on ESEA Food Colonialism delivered by French Cambodian Chinese writer and journalist, Grace Ly.
We will end the day by making space to invite domestic and migrant workers on stage to honour them and the important work they do to keep our domestic, food and public healthcare industries running.
The Bar & Main Hall
Throughout the day, feel free to roam around The Bar and Main Hall, where there will be a range of delicious ESEA food caterers for you to feast on, the chance to meet some amazing grassroots ESEA orgs and explore and shop from small ESEA-owned businesses. Plus, there will be fun, family-friendly entertainment throughout, an area designated for children and some surprises along the way.
Venue
We are excited to host our event at Peckham Levels, which exists to create culture for the here and now. From a transformed multi-storey car park on Rye Lane, since 2017 Peckham Levels have built a meeting place for arts, enterprise and community action in South London.
Tickets:
Tickets are free. Please select one General Admission ticket to gain access to the general event. If you'd like to attend a specific panel or workshop, please select the appropriate ticket to gain access to these, as we have a maximum capacity of 100 per panel/workshop.
